Custom Sea Love Totes by Alaina Marie

As we all welcome the new year, we hold on to hope and continue to support and raise each other up.  One of the greatest joys of owning my own business is to welcome opportunities of collaboration with other woman owned businesses.  Most of the time I'm creating fragrances for other small businesses and it's always very satisfying to craft a candle others can be proud of offering on behalf of their small business or brick and mortar store.

This time, we've had something created for us that we know you'll LOVE!  As we expand our lifestyle brand, it only seemed fitting that Sea Love offer comfortable, sustainable, coastal inspired totes!  When we discovered Alaina Marie, it was a perfect fit from the start!  So, here is a bit more about Alaina, I just adore everything about her!

  • Tell us about your business and what you do:

My name is Alaina, and the name of my business is Alaina Marie. I am a designer and I make a line of handbags and accessories made from a marine grade mesh material. My flagship store and studio in located in South Portland, Maine.

  • When did you open your business and how did you get started?

I have always been creative and love the idea of using materials unintentionally. About 8 years ago, I came across a lobsterman’s bait bag and thought it was made from a really cool, durable mesh material. The mesh was durable enough to withstand the elements of the ocean so I thought it would be the perfect material to make a handbag! With some reconstruction of an original bait bag, I created my first “bait bag clutch” and the rest is history.

  • What is your favorite part of being a store owner?  Least favorite?

I absolutely love owning my own business!  It’s one of the hardest jobs, yet it can be so rewarding. You get what you put into it. I have a wonderful team who help me run things and I couldn’t be more grateful.  I’m most in my element when I’m creating (of course!) and wish I could do that on the daily, but owning a business requires you to wear so many hats which at times can become overwhelming. It’s a constant balancing act.

  • From where do you draw your inspiration and decide on the products you want to offer?
My environment has been the main source of inspiration for me! I am very influenced and inspired my anything coastal because I harbor that landscape in my roots. It’s definitely part of me and transcends through the work I do and the products I create.
  • What values does your business embody?
I am so proud to be a women owned business! I take great pride in that fact and as a company, I want other women to be able to shop my product and wear it boldly. It should be the final piece of their outfit that makes them feel confident every single day. I like to say we spread color not only in your wardrobe, but also in your world.

There you have it - the coolest chic and up & coming business in Southern Maine!  Last year Alaina launched her own Design Bar which is a total dream!  When Barry and I visited to chat about her helping us to create an exclusive design for Sea Love, we had a great time exploring bag and clutch options and all the patterns available.  When we asked her to design something exclusive for Sea Love, I happen to think she nailed it!  :)

We couldn't be more excited to see this pattern in our brand colors of nautical navy, algae, and oyster.  We hope you enjoy this comfortable coastal tote that will accessorize your everyday and remind you of being on the water every time you put it over your shoulder!

If you'd like to design your own bag and visit her design bar in Portland, ME, you can book a reservation through her website or give her a follow at @alainamariebrand.
